Professorship for Digital Narratives – Theory (part time)
The ifs internationale filmschule köln is an artistically oriented training and further education institution for media professionals. The range of courses on offer includes the bachelor's degree program in film with a focus on screenwriting, directing, creative production, camera, editing image & sound, VFX & animation and set design, the master's programs Serial Storytelling, Digital Narratives and 3D Animation (and from 2021: Film, Entertainment Producing) as well as various continuing education programs. The programs are offered in cooperation with the TH Köln.

Your area of work
In teaching, you represent the field of "Digital Narratives - Theory" primarily in the Master's program Digital Narratives, but also in other Bachelor's and Master's programs at the ifs. The courses are offered in cooperation with the TH Köln. Based on your area of responsibility, you will work together with the Professor for Digital Narratives - Art & Design on the further development of Digital Narratives for the ifs. You hold lectures in English. With your network and research activities you will strengthen the profile of the program and the ifs in Germany and abroad. You are comfortable with self-administration and are willing to take on responsibility.
Further focal points:
- Mediation of media-theoretical methods and knowledge perspectives on digitality, digital transformation and digital culture
- Promotion of reflection and critical thinking
- Encourage students' creativity by examining both innovative and historical approaches to media research
- Mentoring* activity for students in the research and development of extended narrative concepts
- Initiation of a critical discourse on the social, political and economic aspects of digital media
It is a professorship under non-civil servant conditions (50%), which is to be filled for a limited period of three years.
You have a Master’s degree in media sciences, cognitive and cultural sciences or related disciplines. Your academic research focus is on digital media and digital culture and you have expertise and experience in action-oriented research. This may include practical work that is the result of an investigative process and critical thinking expressed in digital narratives and/or audiovisual artistic work. You will have demonstrated your particular aptitude for scientific work by means of a doctoral degree. In addition, you have several years of relevant professional experience outside of the university in the subject area of digital media and/or digital culture. You have experience in building international cooperations and have an excellent professional network at your disposal. You are an experienced teacher. You have the ability to align your own thoughts and actions with the long-term goals of the ifs as well as the ability to reliably develop solutions in an interdisciplinary and cooperative manner.
