The University of São Paulo (USP)
Founded in 1934, it is the largest higher education and research institution in Brazil, and one of the oldest in Latin America, comprising of 7 campuses, 42 learning and research units, 4 hospitals, 4 museums, 6 specialized institutes, more than 92,000 students, and 6,000 professors divided in 289 undergraduate and 222 graduate programs in Arts, Humanities, Sciences and Technology.
The Department of Film, Radio and Television (CTR)
Created in 1967 and housed in a 2,000 m2 plant with 3 shooting studios, 3 sound studios, 3 screening rooms, and editing facilities, it admits 35 undergraduate students per year into a four-year full-time academic program, both practical and theoretical. Current students produce from the first to the last year an average of 60 exercises and 16 short films (documentary, fiction and animation), usually screened on television and film festivals around the world. Teaching staff combines experienced professors, including award winning film directors, producers, screenwriters, sound designers, cinematographers, image and sound editors, and authors of some of the main works on history and theory of film and television in Brazil, with degrees from Brazilian, American and European universities, who are also in charge of about 45 students admitted into the Graduate Program (Master and Ph.D.) each year.
