Winner of numerous film prizes including honorary life achievement awards, Oscar, Golden Lion at the International Film Festival in Venice and Golden Bear at the International Film Festival in Berlin. Doktor Honoris Causa of the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Lodz.
