A Land Imagined 2018, Singapore, France, Netherlands
In association with Griffith Film School and NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema), submissions have opened for the 2019 Asia Pacific Screen Lab (APSL).
We are thrilled to celebrate the first premiere from an APSL alumni. Singaporean writer/director Yeo Siew Hua debuted his thriller, A Land Imagined, at the Locarno Festival in Switzerland.
Also announced this week, Iraqi filmmaker and APSL alumni Mohanah Hayal’s Haifa Street is one of only six projects selected for the Venice Film Festival Final Cut in September, a dedicated workshop to provide assistance in the completion of films.
This month, Griffith Film School in conjunction with APSA will present a special showcase of Asia Pacific cinema at Malaysia’s George Town Festival. Among them will be winners of APSA’s NETPAC Young Cinema Award, including The Pomegranate Orchard, Cold of Kalandar, I’m Not Angry!, The Woman in the Septic Tank, Kaili Blues, and Members of the Funeral.
We are very proud to share that two of our MPA APSA Academy Film Fund recipients will debut their work at Venice Film Festival later this month. Both Emir Baigazin’s The River and Garin Nugroho’s Memories of my Body will premiere in the Horizons section, an international competition dedicated to films that represent the latest aesthetic and expressive trends in international cinema. The announcement of these two projects in Venice brings a total of six MPA APSA Academy funded projects to premiere this year!
Tickets to our 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards are on sale. Held on 29 November, this year will mark the introduction of the exciting new award category Best Original Film Score. Please join for this landmark occasion to celebrate the region’s best in cinema.
