The European Film College (EFC) is seeking a full-time Sound Teacher for the 8½ month foundation course.

The European Film College is an internationally acclaimed 8½ month film foundation course. The curriculum combines classroom instruction in the different areas of film making with extended production periods engaging the entire student body. The students try out the different fields of filmmaking in four rounds of basic courses. In the spring the students participate in shorter advanced courses and have the chance to specialize.

The student body consists of 115 students from up to 30 countries. EFC is a residential school where the students and teachers live on campus. The working environment is vibrant, creative and international with an emphasis on openness, diversity and high quality. The working language is English.

The school has 30 permanent employees, including an international faculty, and a committed practical and administrative staff. In addition, an extensive network of Danish and international filmmakers visit the school as guest teachers. The school also operates the local cinema.

The position

To teach foundation-level students 3 week courses in Film Sound to enable them to work as sound recorders and sound designers on EFC productions. 2 week advanced courses in creative sound design are offered in the spring term
To teach the basics of recording sound for film
To teach the basic use of Pro tools and workflow including technical skills
To teach creative sound design and mixing through exercises and coaching of student projects
To coordinate the post production of all school productions and extra-curricular student productions in cooperation with the editing teacher
Occasional lecturing and introductions to screenings
Participation in the student’s welfare and personal development within established structures
Commitment to teamwork in the faculty to reach the best cooperation between the different fields taught at EFC
To share practical responsibilities for the general running of the college including:

Teacher of the Day: practical responsibility for the school and students, outside usual working hours on a rotating roster
Coordination of student activities and social events
Involvement in evening and weekend arrangements with students as required
Active participation in faculty meetings

There is a concentrated workload during the course period (1650 hours during 9 months, from mid August to mid May) but an extended summer break is provided as compensation, with full pay throughout the 12 months. In addition there is a two week fixed vacation over the Christmas period.

Selection Criteria

Experience as a sound designer on fiction and documentary projects at a professional level
Experience with Pro tools and Audition programmes and server solutions
Solid knowledge of narrative strategies and theories
The ability to plan and coordinate postproduction periods and oversee a high number of projects
The ability to be both structured and flexible and to work under pressure
Good communication skills, sense of initiative, good judgement and maturity.
