JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Director of Documentary Campus and the Executive Board and working with the Head of Science, Head of Youth and wider staff, the Head of Film and Exhibition is responsible for developing the curatorial and artistic vision for a film and New Media exhibition program focusing on science, future technologies and media. S/he will work to develop a program identity and create a relevant event for filmmakers, scientists, and local audiences alike.
Project based contract. 6 months part time, 3 months full time – flexible working hours will be required in the lead-up to, during, and immediately after the festival. Presence in Halle (Saale) is required two months before the festival and during the festival, as well as for occasional, local events throughout the year. Home office is an option, the job location is preferably in Berlin at the office of Documentary Campus. This position requires travels to international festivals and events with extended working hours (evening and weekends).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Developing, curating and execution of an enticing, attractive and critically acclaimed annual program of films, New Media and exhibitions about science and future technologies of all genres (documentaries, fiction, animation, interactive);
Working closely with the Director of Documentary Campus and the Executive Board to develop short and long-term goals for the festival platform;
Close cooperation and exchange with the other leading Heads of the festival (Head of Science and Head of Youth);
Support of the Director of Documentary Campus to pursue funding, sponsoring and in-kind support from public and private sources;
Building and maintaining relationships with funding agencies, other cultural and scientific bodies and organizations, donors and sponsors;
Representation of the festival platform at local, national and international events;
Identification of potential suitable filmmakers and artists year-round;
Development of marketing and communications strategies for the festival program and the exhibitions in collaboration with the other Heads, staff, volunteers and external contractors, including the creation of marketing and publicity materials;
Execution of audience development and outreach strategies, outreach to young people;
Writing for publications, journals, websites and most importantly social media;
Developing and maintaining the organization’s relationship with the key film community professionals (including publicists, distributors, producers, agents, sales agents and festivals) in Germany and internationally;
Preparation and delivery of introductions to films and exhibitions and professionally chaired Q&A sessions and film talks;
Achievement of objectives of the organization and its partners.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Interest in film and science related topics, new technologies and media;
Film and/or related media industries experience;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Proven public speaking skills;
Proven project and leadership experience;
Experience in producing reports for a range of stakeholders, including board, funders, sponsors, donors and press;
Contacts within the film industry is an asset;
Excellent English language skills (spoken as well as in writing), spoken German is an asset;
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
Ability to work in a team, with a range of collaborators and partners;
Ability to work self-organized;
Ability to travel to festivals and work evenings and weekends;
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality;
Computer skills: MSOffice (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Google Apps, Keynote, databases, social media.
