We are looking for an engaged and passionate Lecturer Collaborative Practice to join the team in delivering the AFTRS Master of Arts Screen program. This is a hands-on, dynamic program producing creative professionals who will shape the future of the Australian screen industry.

The Lecturer Collaborative Practice co-ordinates, mentors and teaches into practical production subject, including development and improvement of subject outlines, learning outcomes, assessment tasks, production briefs and other academic governance requirements.

About the role:As the Lecturer Collaborative Practice at AFTRS, you will:

  • Under the direction of the Program Convenor – MA, teach and mentor students in accordance with the Approved Curriculum, AFTRS Student Handbook, MA Production Handbook and AFTRS Teaching and Learning plans to achieve approved learning outcomes. Work with the Program Convenor – MA and Head of Curriculum to address curriculum- related issues.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Production, address production-related issues.
  • Assess students in accordance with the Approved Curriculum and AFTRS Assessment Guidelines and Policy. Input assessment grades and feedback into Moodle, the Learning Management System, so they are available to students within the required timeframe.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development as determined by the Program Convenor – MA.
  • Refer student requests for special consideration, issues relating to academic progression, reports of academic misconduct and other student related matters to the Program Convenor – MA or AFTRS Student Centre.
  • Ensure all relevant administrative work is completed, including budgets and curriculum documentation, external staff contracts, timely response to student emails and attendance and participation in relevant course and discipline meetings.
  • Participate on committees, review boards and panels constituted to deal with recruitment, content, student assessment and other student related matters as required.
  • The occupant of this position may be invited to participate in industry engagement or research projects within their academic workload.
  • Adhere to all local procedures particularly in relation to student and course related activities. Liaise with the support areas in accordance with established procedures and timelines in all support related matters. Key Education Policies, Procedures and Guidelines include:

About you – you have:

  1. Relevant teaching/mentoring experience.
  2. High-level screen production experience including project co-ordination in complex production environments.
  3. Substantial commercial industry experience as a Head of Department in a relevant discipline area.
  4. Ability to work independently, use initiative and prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast- paced environment.
  5. Communicate effectively orally and in writing, adapting the message for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way.
  6. Experience in creating culturally and psychologically safe learning and working environments.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills, working collaboratively in a team.
