Mission & Strategy

The ECOLE SUPERIEURE D’ETUDES CINEMATOGRAPHIQUES (ESEC), is a private school centrally located in Paris. With 43 years of existence, the ESEC developped an international recognition.

Certified by the French Ministry of Labour the school has a close partnership with the Sydney Film School organising Students exchanges. The school is proudly giving Intermediate Level English classes to all students.

The school emphasize on a collaborative practice-based learning and the students achieve over 60 films per year.

Having high connexions with the Film Industry, the ESEC takes part in the professional integration of its graduate students through required internships at the end of their studies.

Through its under graduate and graduate programs, the ESEC prepares its candidates for carrers in:
– Directing for Film and Video, with optional sections in screenwriting and documentary filmmaking,
– Film and video production,
– Video editing and digital special effects for film and video,
– Screen writing.

Preparatory course:
You may follow the one-year course if you have not passed you high-school degree or A-Level, or if you wish to acquire a good level of basic education and a suitable method of working.

First Year/ Second Year:
The first and Second year prepare the students for the ESEC Diploma. They take place over a school year lasting from mid-october through the end of june or early July.
Oral and written exams, tests, supervising individual exam or team work as well as year end productions allows for an evaluation of students’s skills during these two years. The student is elligible for the diploma when he/she has maintained an average of 10/20 over the course of tests and exams.

In the Cinema department (only), the student will only be a recipient of the diploma upon completion of an internship at the end of the second year.

Non-curricular projects: Some non-curricular projects are selected by the School according to their pedagogical value. They include participating in festivals (Cannes, Clermont, Sarlat), productions with outside partners or taking part in cultural events, or in technical fairs and meetings.

With over 400 students (265 under gratuates and 145 graduates), coming from over 20 countries, ESEC delivers its own diplomas in cinematography and audiovisual techniques.
– Registered with the Ministry of Education in 1973, member of the FEMIS national college since 1986 until 1998, ESEC is a professional school, training students in the fields of cinema, audiovisual mediums, and multimedia applied to various audiovisual mediums.
– As with other national schools, ESEC delivers its own diplomas in cinematography and audiovisual techniques, which are french and international diplomas at level II.

BASCHIERI Daniel

Born in 1960 to a French mother and Italian father, in the south of France, bordering the Mediterranean, Daniel Baschieri has graduated from the Higher School of Film Studies (ESEC, Paris) class of 1984, years during which he produced and directed a short film in Super 8 “the game of passion”, before participating in his first feature film as assistant unit manager. Since 1985, he participated in about thirty feature films in France and abroad, as production manager and unit manager. Passionate about literature and writing, he is the author of several scenarios, an essay on French cinema “negative”, a book of poetry “nights of clay” and a diary “Adana Experience”. He recently created Sud Media Group, an independent production company, to develop his own feature film projects. Tireless traveler, warned movie buff, photographer in his spare time, interested in all the arts and foreign cultures, he has made from – the use of the world – an absolute principle of life, the manifesto, first and foremost, of the knowledge of Mankind.
