Does hungaropessimism really exist? Are Hungarians more pessimistic than other nations of the world? Our short documentary addresses these questions, building on a variety of disciplines as well as on everyday experience. A precise account of the national psychology of Hungarians might always be beyond our reach, but everyone agrees that it exists and that it is unique. While pessimism is not a specifically Hungarian phenomenon, several studies suggest that Hungarians are particularly prone to exaggerate the negative aspects of the world, and this way of thinking became an important part of our national identity as well. Hungaropessimism is a light, entertraining movie which explores the mysteries of the elusive Hungarian folk soul with comprehensive interviews, spectacular scenes and archive footages.
