Standing Committee on Sustainability (SCS)
‘Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.’ (Brundtland, G.H. (1987) Our Common Future: Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development. Geneva, UN-Dokument A/42/427). In addition to being an ethical imperative, sustainable pedagogical approaches have increasingly been found to have a positive effect on collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
At the proposal of GEECT Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manuel Jose Damásio, in 2024 CILECT established SCS with the goal to collect data, provide tools and resources, and develop modules for teaching and practicing sustainable filmmaking.
SCS pursues four main objectives:
- To foster the green agenda across the association and its implications for film education and production
- To design and promote initiatives for green production education across member schools
- To produce concrete guidelines for the integration of the green production agenda in member schools
- To incentivize students’ productions that embed “green” values
The Roadmap’2025 includes:
- Adoption of a CILECT Declaration on Sustainability (CILECT Congress, Guadalajara 2025)
- Development of a proposal for green production training (short duration) and the adoption of a green agenda across curriculum and educational practices (2024/2025). Proposal for a course in place January/March 2025 to be shared with members.
- Dissemination of a tool for green production across members (i.e. green producers’ club tool). CILECT would cover costs for the members that are interested in it (June/July)
- Research of existing initiatives and approaches across regions and schools and set-up of an area for educational resources in the CILECT website (June)
- Promotion and dissemination of the CILECT policy and guidelines manual for green production (2025).
