CILECT Teaching Award – Rules

As a means to recognize and reward excellence in cinema, audiovisual and/or media pedagogy within the organization, since 2014 the CILECT Executive Council selects up to three (3) Teaching Award recipients each year from qualified nominations: 

Nomination Categories:

  • Lifetime Educational Achievement (LEA) Award

The LEA Award is intended to distinguish teachers with outstanding impact on the international audiovisual art and media education. It is given by a jury composed of the Executive Council Members and the Honorary Members and is accompanied by a financial grant of 5.000 Euro (allocated as CILECT/Regional conference attendance waivers at the choice of the winner).

  • Promising Young Teacher (PYT) Award (up to 40 years of age)

The PYT Award is intended to acknowledge teachers that have achieved significant pedagogical results at national level. It is given by a jury composed of the Executive Council Members and the Regional Councils’ Members and is accompanied by a financial grant of 5.000 Euro (allocated as CILECT/Regional conference attendance waivers at the choice of the winner OR as funds towards a non-CILECT event that could enhance the winner’s pedagogical/research capacity).

Nominator Eligibility: Only FULL MEMBER schools in good standing may nominate Teaching Award candidates. One school can only nominate ONE candidate.

Re-nomination: Candidates may be nominated up to a total of three (3) separate years OR until they are selected as a Teaching Award recipient. No Teaching Award recipient may be re-nominated.

Nomination Deadline: The nominating school must submit all required materials online to executive.director@cilect.org no later than 31 March 2025.

Nomination Portfolio: All the following materials must be included in the submitted portfolio:

  1. Checklist of all items provided
  2. An official nomination statement from the school written in English and signed by the Head of School or equivalent
  3. A Teaching Philosophy statement written in English (max 500 words) that summarizes the most impactful and/or innovative aspects of the nominee’s pedagogical approach 
  4. A summary written in English of the nominee’s teaching positions related to film, TV and/or media pedagogy with brief descriptions of the major courses taught (max 50 words each)
  5. A summary written in English of the nominee’s most influential publications, audiovisual creative work, artistic research and/or technological aids related to film, TV and/or media pedagogy. (The list should be supported by copies of the original cover page and table of contents page, and/or website references, and/or published reviews.)
  6. A list written in English of the nominee’s presentations at national and/or international events (workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.) in the field of film, TV and/or media pedagogy
  7. A list written in English of the nominee’s professional and educational recognitions (awards, grants, etc.) 
  8. A list written in English of the nominee’s policy making and/or organizational services in the area of film, TV and/or media pedagogy at national and/or international level
  9. An audiovisual file up to 15 minutes in length and subtitled in English that shows an UNEDITED excerpt of the nominee’s teaching or a relevant presentation of their educational work in front of an audience.

  • Overall Portfolio – 20%;
  • Teaching Philosophy – 10%;
  • Teaching Positions – 10%;
  • Publications/Innovations – 10%;
  • International/National Presentations – 10%;
  • Professional Recognitions – 10 %;
  • Policy Making/Organizational Services – 10%; and
  • Video – 20%

The Executive Director will notify all Full Members and the nominees of the Executive Council’s final decision no later than 31 May 2025.

The winners will be presented and awarded at the CILECT Congress 2025 at UG/DIS, Guadalajara, Mexico. NB: All winners’ economy class air travel and full accommodation expenses will be covered by CILECT.
