Mission & Strategy
The Film School of Uruguay (ECU) is a department of the Cinemateca Uruguaya (Uruguayan Cinematheque), the main institution of film culture and preservation in the country. It was created in 1995 as the first institution in Uruguay dedicated to professional training in filmmaking.
Its goal is to train students in the use of audiovisual media, encouraging creativity, imagination, exchange and the expressive freedom of new filmmakers. The school contributes this way to the development of the Uruguayan cinema.
Its teaching body is comprised of filmmakers and scholars, both Uruguayan and foreign, with extensive professional experience in the country and abroad.
ECU also functions as a meeting place between artists, technicians, actors, film students and graduates from different artistic training centers, where new projects are permanently generated and materialized.
ECU also organizes the International Film School Festival, an academic and artistic annual event gathering short films made by student from the best film schools around the world.
