Mission & Strategy
The Icelandic Film School (KVÍ) is an educational institution responsible for education in the field of film making. The school’s policy is to contribute to the establishment of an Icelandic visual industry with meticulous teaching, research, educational and communication work in all fields of film making. Furthermore, the school’s goal is to offer an international filmmaking program and attract talented individuals from all corners of the world to study and work in this country. The objective of the Icelandic Film School is to attain the stature of one of the world’s premiere film schools.

Key Teaching Staff
HLÍN JÓHANNESDÓTTIR
Hlín graduated from Anthropology and Media Studies at the University of Iceland. She has worked in Filmmaking since 2000, as an independent producer, production manager and producer at Zik Zak Filmworks, who have received over 100 international awards for their projects, including an Oscar nomination. As a producer, Hlín has worked with many of Iceland’s leading directors in the production of feature films as well as documentaries. She has also worked as a writer for magazines and online news. She founded the film company Vintage Pictures with Birgitta Jónsdóttir and owns the company Culture camp; Art Production House Ursus Parvus with Vilborga Einarsdóttir. Pictures that Hlín has produced include “The Swan”, “Bokeh”, “This is Sanlitum” and many more.
HILMAR ODDSSON
Hilmar studied filmmaking at the Hochschule für Fernsehehen und Film in Munich, Germany. He premiered his first movie in 1986 and since then Hilmar has made 5 movies, 5 TV movies, 5 short films and over 25 music videos. He has made numerous documentaries and over a hundred TV shows. In addition, he has directed and managed the filming of two “sitcom” series and directed commercials and all-hands educational material. Hilmar has discussed films on television and has written many articles on film-related issues. Hilmar has taught filmmaking and acting for two decades, including at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and the Iceland Film Academy, which he directed from 2010 to 2017.
DAVÍÐ ALEXANDER CORNO
Davíð has worked in filmmaking for almost a decade, primarily as an editor, but also as a director, cinematographer and other jobs on set. He has edited his own documentary (“7 years”), all of Benedikt Erlingsson’s full-length films (“Hors í oss”, “Show of Shows” and “Kona fer i stíð”), more full-length films (“Summer children” , “Undir Halastørni”) and is currently editing the documentaries “3. póllinn” (directed by Andra Snæs Magnason and Anní Ólafsdóttir) and “14 years” (directed by himself together with Áslaug Einarsdóttir)
TÓMAS ÖRN TÓMASSON
Tómas has been associated with filmmaking ever since he was at Verzlunarskóli Ísland. After graduating from there, he went to the University of Iceland and Copenhagen University, where he studied history. Along with his studies, he took on all the work that was offered and related to filming. Tómas envisioned becoming a documentary filmmaker, where he would write, film and direct his own works. When he returned from his studies in the summer of 1996, he was offered various jobs related to filmmaking. It was then in 2002 that he decided to focus entirely on filmmaking. On Tómas’ website there is a work experience summary and links to the main projects he has filmed.
KJARTAN KJARTANSSON
Kjartan is one of the most experienced musicians in the country. He has taken care of the soundtrack for many of the most famous films in Icelandic film history, and there are works such as “Sódómu Reykjavík”, “Myrkrahöfðingjann” and “Engla Alheimsins”.
ROB TASKER
Rob has worked in film, television and commercials since 2008. With over 40 titles in his career, Rob has been nominated for awards several times for his work, for example the Primetime Emmy Awards for the TV series “Hannibal” and twice been nominated for the Canadian Screen Award for the movie “Wet Bum” and for the TV series “Copper”. He has worked in production with various companies such as SagaFilm, Universal Pictures, NBC, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, New Line Cinema, Sony Pictures, SyFy and many more.
HEIÐAR SUMARLIÐASON
Heiðar Sumarliðason has a Bachelor’s degree from the Dramatists’ Program at the Iceland University of the Arts, as well as an MA in Writing from the University of Iceland and Directing from East15 in London. He is currently studying for a teaching qualification at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. Heiðar has written plays and film scripts, among his works are “(90)210 Garðabær” which was shown at the Þjóðleichús, “Rautt brennur för” which was shown at the Borgarleichús, “Svín” which was performed at RÚV’s Radio Theater and the film play “It which we do in private” which was shown in Tjarnarbíó. Heiðar has directed ten plays in a professional theater, including “Segu mér satt” by Hávar Sigurjónsson, “The Glass Animals” by Tennessee Williams, “Pizzasendlinum” by Elísabeta Jökulsdóttir, as well as his own works.

KOLBRÚN ANNA BJÖRNSDÓTTIR
Kolbrún completed his BA. degree in Drama from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 1998 and has worked as a freelance artist in a variety of venues since. Kolbrún completed teacher training from the Iceland Teachers College in 2006 and has teaching experience at all school levels, from kindergarten to university level. She then completed a master’s degree in Practical Cultural Media from the University of Iceland in 2013.
RÚNAR GUÐBRANDSSON
Rúnar originally studied Drama in Denmark and worked there for years as an actor with various theater groups. He has received further education in Poland and Russia. Rúnar completed his MA and MPhil degrees in Theater Studies and Directing from De Montfort University in Leicester, England, and has completed the first half of his doctoral studies. He was the first professor of acting at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. Rúnar has written and directed a number of plays both in Iceland and abroad, and has been teaching acting and training actors in many parts of Europe. He has also acted in a number of films and TV shows.
ÞÓREY SIGTHÓRSDÓTTIR
Þórey has worked as an actress and director on stage and in films since she graduated from the Íslands School of Drama in 1991. Þórey graduated with a teaching license from LHÍ in 2004, an MA degree in Advanced Theater Practice from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2012 and an MA degree in Practical Cultural Communication from UI in 2014. For many years Þórey has taught voice at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and at various courses for actors and people who work with the voice. She is qualified to teach Nadine George’s voice training method from The Voice Studio International in London and bases her teaching on the NGT method. Þórey is the founder and artistic director of the theater company Fljugandi Fiskar, which has produced several shows, including “Hótel Heklu” by Anton Helga Jónsson and Linda Vilhjálmsdóttir and “Medeu” (multi-media) by Evrípides.
