Key Teaching Staff
Dr. Rebecca Ohene-Asah Hesse
Rebecca Ohene-Asah has close to two decades of experience in media training and practice in Ghana. She is an alumna of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film Directing. She later studied for a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Documentary Film Studies and Production at Hofstra University in Hempstead-New York, under a Fulbright fellowship.
She holds a Ph.D. Degree in Museum and Heritage Studies from the University of Ghana-Legon. She is co-founder and director of Benpaali Young Filmmakers Festival which has since 2015, mentored young people and showcased films and videos they create under the broad theme of Stories That Matter. Apart from teaching courses in film theory and documentary film studies and Production at NAFTI, Rebecca offers audio-visual communication consultancy to organizations within Ghana and internationally through Fire-beads Media which she co-founded in 2015.
Her research interests are centered on relationships between colonial cinema, audio-visual archives, and current indigenous film practices and how these feed into the identities of proponents. Her filmmaking interests include cross-cultural and interactive documentary filmmaking practices with an affinity for themes surrounding African contemporary histories and heritages contextualized within issues of representation, race, and identity.
Mr. Kofi Atta Yorke
Kofi Atta Yorke is a Lecturer and Visual Communicator with over a decade of teaching experience and professional practice. He began his career in 2009 as a publication designer and illustrator after graduating with first-class honors in Publishing Studies at the KNUST, Kumasi. He served as a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Publishing Studies. With his artistic skills and passion for teaching, he pursued an MPhil Art Education programme graduating successfully in 2013. He has been at the Department of Multimedia Production from 2013 to date rising through the ranks from a Tutor to Lecturer. He currently serves as the Head of the Department for Multimedia Production as well as serves on the Academic Management and Quality Assurance Committees at NAFTI.
He has worked on projects including the design of publications and publicity materials for both international and local conferences for professional and governmental agencies.
He was selected to serve on the Design and Layout committee of the Ministry of Education group of experts for Textbook Evaluation in 2012. He served as a Rapporteur for the 2nd Kwame Nkrumah Pan African Intellectual and Cultural Festival hosted by the University of Ghana in 2017.
He has participated in training workshops and conferences such as DW Akademie Training on Multimedia and Storytelling, and Research Workshop on Thesis Supervision. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate at the Department of Educational Innovations in Science and Technology at the KNUST, Kumasi. His research interests are curriculum development and implementation, Student Learning Strategies and Online Education, and the Design of Instructional media tools for teaching and learning.
Ms. Sarah N. B. Kuntoh
After her high school education, Sarah Kuntoh was posted to do her National Service at the erstwhile Ghana Film Industry Corporation for a year in the Film Editing Department in September 1985. A year later, after her interest in cinema had reached a high degree, she applied to the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) where she pursued a programme in Film and Video Editing (1986-1989) earning a Professional Diploma and winning a Fulbright scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in Cinema Studies at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York (2000- 2003) and has been in film training till date. She is currently pursuing her Doctoral Studies in Ethnomusicology at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana.
In 2017, Sarah became a participating researcher in an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) sponsored Film Development Research Programme on Storytelling dubbed Story Lab International which took place in three continents namely, Asia, South America, and Africa.
Her research interests include Race and Representation in Cinema, Film Music, Women’s Cinema, and Children and Cinema.

Mr. Eugene Odame
Eugene Akyea Odame is currently the Head of Production and Business Development at the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI). Before being appointed to this position, he was the Head of the Film Artistic Department from 2017 to 2021. He worked at MultiTV, a subsidiary of Multimedia Group Limited, as the Head of Production (2011 to 2013) and Head of Technical Production (2013 to 2016). He supervised the production of many live studio shows and outside broadcast shows for Adom TV, Joy Prime, and the Joy News Channel. He also directed many live outside broadcasting shows for Joy News Channel. He holds two diplomas (in Film Sound Production and Film Editing) from NAFTI, a Master’s degree in Television and Film Production from Syracuse University in the USA, and another Master’s degree in Media Management from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) in Accra. He is currently pursuing a doctorate programme in Theatre Arts at the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana. He teaches Film and Television Production Management, Film Business, and Directing for Television. His research interests are in the Financing, Production, and Distribution of Film Productions.
