Mission & Strategy

Film making has been a subject of study in Turku since 1991. In the specialization of film art at the Turku Arts Academy much emphasis is put on gaining general knowledge about film as an artform. In their studies students can specialize in script writing, cinematography, sound design, editing, production or in combinations of these.
Students receive basic knowledge of the various sub-areas of film and TV production and make both fiction and documentary films. The equipment is up-to-date and meets the professional standards in the field.

Animation studies in Turku started 1994. The aim of the animation training is to produce animation professionals with wide scale of expertise. During the four years training period students learn to know the whole production process of animated film from traditional puppet animation to 2D/3D animation. They also gain firm knowledge of basic animation techniques and are able to use latest digital technique and software in animation. The practical film making and different projects are in the center of studies. During production periods they learn to use all skills needed starting from own idea/script and ending up till post production work. Graduates work in different fields of media as animation directors, animators, digital professionals, artists or illustrators.

To study animation the visual skills and imagination is needed along with organization skills and punctuality. It is essential to have real interest, great patience and the ability to work independently.
