Minata, an 18-year-old girl, is engaged to Boukary, a 20-year-old boy. They plan to marry after the rainy season, but Boukary, impatient for intimacy, is persuaded by Minata to wait. Boukary, summoned by his uncle, leaves to fight the threatening Whites. Learning of his departure, Minata decides to fulfill his desire before he leaves. Boukary promises a surprise upon his return. Months later, the village rejoices at the warriors' return, but trumpet sounds.
